Invited by the University of Economics, Prague (VSE) in Czech, Dalarna University and Karlstad University in Sweden, JUFE’s President Lu Fucai led the JUFE delegation to visit the Czech Republic and Sweden for educational cooperation and international exchanges to three universities from May 21th to 28th. Prof. Liao Guoqiong, the Dean of Academic Affairs Office, Prof. Mao Chengying, the Associate Dean of the School of Software and Communication, and Liu Xin, the program coordinator of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, visited with the delegation.
The University of Economics, Prague (VSE) is a first-class professional economic university in the Czech Republic. The Business School ranked the first in Eastern Europe by EdUniversel in 2008, ranked the 73th in the global by Financial Times in 2010, and established cooperation with JUFE early. During this visit, Lu Fucai held a talk with Prof. Jiri Hnilica, the Vice President for International Affairs and Prof.Dana Brazdova, the Director of International Studies Centres. Lu Fucai introduced the basic situation of JUFE, especially the achievements in international education which JUFE has been ranking the first in Jiangxi Province for three years. He also pointed out that JUFE and VSE have highly similar curriculum and majors, the primary purpose of this visit is enhancing mutual understanding and hope that based on the well operated undergraduate exchange program, JUFE and VSE could cooperate on the range of graduate students and faculties exchange, etc. Vice President Jiri Hnilica welcomed the delegate’s coming, expressed satisfaction with the fruit of long-term cooperation, and introduced the basic situation of VSE. International Studies Centres staffs, like Dana Brazdova, had elaborated introductions of the international cooperation program in the University of Economics, Prague. Both parties conducted detailed discussions on enhancing exchange program practice for undergraduate, opening exchange double-degree program for graduate students, besides, had an in-depth talk about joint researches and conversations on “One Belt and One Road Initiative.” The delegation also visited the exchange students who have returned VSE and will come to JUFE next semester and have an in-depth conversation for the concerned question.
In recent years, the exchanges and visits between JUFE and Dalarna university have been frequent, and cooperation has born many fruits. The continuous hosting of the Sino-Swiss Summer School in software engineering has provided an excellent platform for the exchange of teachers and students. Moreover, the Sino-Swiss cooperation program for software engineering (3+1 undergraduate dual degree program) was approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2015, which opened a broader space for cooperation between two universities. Lu Fucai and delegation attended the second board meeting of Sino-Swiss Cooperation Program in Borlange Campus of Dalarna Unversity. Participants included Prof. Martin Norsell, President of the University of Dalarna, Prof. Ann Edenhamn, Dean of the School of Technology and Business, Susanne Corrigox, Director of International Affairs, Roger Nyberg, Dean of the Department of Information and Computer Science, Prof. William Song, Coordinator of China-Switzerland Cooperation Program and so on.
At the meeting, Lu Fucai introduced the education progess of the program since it was permitted. There were 86 students enrolled in 2016 and 2017, and the curriculum plan was conducted smoothly. He expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of JUFE to Dalarna University and the instructors who came to JUFE to teach courses in English. Moreover, he hoped that both sides would work together to accomplish the admission and visa work for the first batch of students on the condition of recruiting excellent academic performing students. At the same time, he also expected that both parties would promote exchange programs frequency, carry out the graduate program and joint research programand deepen the communication and cooperation. Prof. Martin Norsell, the President of the University of Dalarna, warmly welcomed the visited of Delegation. He was satisfied with the progress of Sino-Swiss cooperation program and hoped to lay the common ground for the topics concerned by both parties to secure the first batch of students studying in Sweden successfully. Prof. Mao Dengying, the Associate Dean of the School of Software and Communication and Prof. William Song, Head of Sino-Swiss Cooperation Program, separately introduced the progress of two universities and the topics to be discussed. Participants further discussed on the range of the curriculum, the arrangement of faculty, the selection of students, accommodation arrangements, graduation thesis, and the 3rd Sino-Swiss cooperative Software Engineering Undergraduate Program promotion and other issues. JUEF and Dalarna University both agreed to set up three working groups to be responsible for curriculum and teacher arrangements in Sino-Swiss cooperation classes, teaching quality,student selection, the dispatch and promotion channels. Both parties agreed to hold the 3rd boarding meeting in JUFE around June next year. After this meeting, the delegation went to the Department of Information and Computer Science, had an informal discussion with thefaculties, and discussed deepen cooperation in research. The delegation also called on Wan Benting, the Deputy Director of Collaborative Innovation Center of JUFE on visiting Dalarna University.
Karlstad University is among the top 10 comprehensive universities in Sweden, its Business School was credited by AACSB(Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and become its member in 2010. Since two universities signed the memorandum of cooperation in 2004, JUFE and Karlstad have maintained excellent long-term cooperation in exchange students and visiting scholars. During the visit, Lu Fucai and other teachers visited the International Centre, Business School and Department of Information Management. The international program coordinator introduced the programs of Karlstad University in international cooperate and exchange in detail and expected fuel the cooperation. Marie Therese Christianson, the Associate Dean of Business School, welcomed Lu’s delegation to the Business School. She introduced the undergraduate, postgraduate and professional program settings of the Business School. Lu Fucai pointed out that these majors are all established in JUFE, and hoped two universities can keep close communication and carry the exchanges and joint research program forward. Professor John Soren Pettersson, Head of the Information System Team, introduced the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Department of Information Systems in detail and organized instructors in the team to communicate with Lu Fucai and his colleagues. Lu Fucai placed emphasis on JUFE’s Information Management School, Software and Communication School which closely related with this team, introduced its majors' setting and situation and hoped that both parties could exercise their strengths, keep communication and cooperate closely actively around “One Belt and One Road Initiative ”. At the same time, the discussion was held to recruit international students to mainland China and short-term programs under the Erasmus+ (Erasmus European Union Scholarship) framework.
This visit has reached the intended purpose and improved JUFE’s international popularity and reputation. It has not only deepenedthe mutual understanding and friendship among three universities but also broadened the new frontier for jointly cultivating economic and management talents with One Belt and One Road countries. Related departments would follow up and implement fruits of this visit, enhance cooperation and exchanges with three universities, and improve the level of international education of JUFE.
